I’m sure a lot of climate conspiracy folks will think this is a horrible solution (bring back plastic straws!) and create some kind of inconvenience. But this paper lid works perfectly fine and will decompose quickly in the landfill.
In conversations with friends who work with the EU, they often feel it’s the nanny state run amok with too many regulations. But sometimes, it just makes sense to force companies to do the right thing. All capitalism needs supervision.
I’ve seen TikTok of Americans coming back from Europe complaining also about plastic caps being attached to the top of water bottles. “It scratched my nose!” They whine. That’s a tiny sacrifice I’m willing to work around for tiny chink in the plastic armor.
